Why travelers stop here
Seoul Folk Flea Market originally operated under the name of a representative flea market or general market in Korea, centered around Hwanghak-dong before Cheonggyecheon was restored. The Hwanghak-dong Flea Market was formed as a street and shops selling old items and goods collected from all over the country. Along with the Cheonggyecheon restoration project, the Hwanghak-dong Flea Market, which had been operating as street stalls in Hwanghak-dong and along Cheonggyecheon, moved to the Dongdaemun Folk Flea Market inside the former Dongdaemun Stadium and continued business. Later, as part of the park development project for the former Dongdaemun Stadium site, to develop a representative folk market linked to the tourism industry, Seoul Folk Flea Market was opened at the site of Sungin Girls' Middle School in Cheonggye 8-ga, adjacent to Cheonggyecheon, aiming to become a world-class folk market and a new shopping destination. Seoul Folk Flea Market sells a variety of products including antiques, modern and contemporary historical items, traditional Korean old goods, daily necessities, bags, and second-hand clothing. It is a unique market that also features a traditional household goods exhibition hall, offering diverse sights, foods, and activities all in one space. In particular, it was selected as a 'Seoul Future Heritage' in 2015.
