Destination briefing
Why travelers stop here
This is the finest coastal scenery on Baengnyeong Island. Dumujin (頭武津) is named after the sharp rocks gathered together, resembling generals putting their heads together in a meeting. Quartzites formed from sand deposited a billion years ago have been shaped by waves and wind over hundreds of millions of years, creating bizarre rock formations standing facing the sea. It is comparable to the Manmulsang of Geumgangsan and is called the Haegumgang of the West Sea. You can see uniquely shaped rocks such as Elephant Rock, General Rock, Sinseondae, Seondaeam, and Hyungjebawi. There are two ways to explore Dumujin: a cruise ship tour and trekking. Taking a cruise from Dumujin Port allows you to cut through the sea breeze and enjoy the spectacular views of the bizarre rocks, and you can also see spotted seals resting on the rocks. Trekking is a way to take in the scenery of Dumujin slowly. Descending the coastal stairs allows you to observe the bizarre rocks up close. It takes about 20 minutes to walk along the coastal gravel path to the left of Dumujin Port to Seondaeam.
