Why travelers stop here
It is called Kongdol Coast because the beach is covered with pebbles the size of bean grains, and it is designated and protected as a natural monument. The coast is about 800m long and 30m wide. The pebbles are made of quartzite, which forms most of the geology of Baengnyeong Island, broken down and worn away by coastal waves. Visitors can listen to the sound of transparent pebbles colliding and experience pebble steaming, which is said to be effective for dermatitis. The coastal slope is steep, so there are suddenly deep areas, and during low tide when the water recedes, hollows form in the cliff at the end of the coast.
