Why travelers stop here
The legendary setting where Simcheong is said to have drowned in the classic Korean novel 'The Story of Simcheong' is called Indangsu or Imdangsu, located between Jangsan Cape and Baengnyeong Island. The place where the filial Simcheong was revived and drifted on a lotus flower by the currents is Yeonbong Rock, a small rocky island off the southern coast of Baengnyeong Island. At the summit of Buksan Mountain in Jinchon-ri, Baengnyeong Island, where both Indangsu and Yeonbong Rock can be seen, a two-story Simcheonggak Pavilion was built on October 21, 1999, to honor Simcheong's filial piety. The first floor introduces the story of 'Simcheongjeon' through text, videos, and models, and presents it in various genres such as novels, fairy tales, and traditional Korean music, offering a variety of attractions. There is also a themed photo zone for Simcheong, used as a photo spot. The second floor displays the history and tourist attractions of Ongjin County and the scenic views of Baengnyeong Island. Outdoors, visitors can enjoy an open sea view and see a statue of Simcheong, tanks, and cannons.
