Why travelers stop here

The Hwadojin Festival is a representative historical and cultural festival of Jemulpo-gu, Incheon, held annually to honor and pass down the history and traditions of Hwadojin, a military camp established during the Joseon Dynasty to defend against foreign invasions. As the oldest military camp festival in Incheon and a representative local festival, the Hwadojin Festival celebrates its 36th edition this year, taking place over three days from September 5 to 7, 2025, at Dongincheon Station North Plaza and Hwadojin Park area. Approximately 160,000 people are expected to participate. The festival features an opening ceremony starting with a grand drum performance and a closing ceremony ending with calligraphy, along with official events recreating historical scenes such as the Eoyeongdaejang Fortress Construction Procession and the Gyojihasik Ceremony. Additionally, there are diverse cultural performances including musicals, choirs, busking, and historical talk concerts, as well as participatory stages like a children's dance competition, a youth fringe festival, and a resident singing contest. Experience programs such as traditional military camp experiences, craft experiences, and drone experiences, along with a food market, flea market, and nighttime landscape lighting, make the festival enjoyable for families and tourists alike.
