Why travelers stop here
Ueumdo, named because the island's shape resembles a cow (牛) or because the sound of a cow's mooing can be heard from the land, became land rather than an island due to the development of the Sihwa Lake reclaimed land. Evidence of this is the dinosaur egg fossils discovered near Ueumdo. The dinosaurs found here are estimated to have been a group habitat from the Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic Era, about 100 million years ago. Over 30 dinosaur egg nest fossils and about 200 egg fossils have been discovered at 12 sites. This dinosaur egg fossil site, with such rare value, became a popular tourist attraction after being made famous by someone who visited Ueumdo to take photos.
