Why travelers stop here
The Tteok Museum is an experiential space and a venue for hands-on education where visitors can feel the wisdom and spirit of our ancestors' lives. The motivation for establishing the museum by gathering personally collected artifacts here was sparked by the 'Old Kitchenware Exhibition with Stories' held at the Baek Sang Memorial Hall in Anguk-dong in March 1999. Many who saw the exhibition expressed a desire for a space where they could always encounter our old kitchenware, and feeling saddened that these kitchenware relics were being forgotten, the museum opened in January 2002, displaying over 3,000 collected items in its current location.
Tteok (rice cakes) is a food deeply embedded in Korean life, sharing joys and sorrows, with a wide variety of types and scientifically exquisite combinations for taste, nutrition, texture, and aroma. The Tteok Museum exhibits these rice cakes categorized differently according to seasons, life rituals, and preparation methods. Additionally, various cooking tools used to make tteok are on display. Beyond just viewing tteok, the museum offers experiential programs where visitors can make and taste them. Through these experiences, both Koreans and foreigners have the opportunity to learn about our proud traditional culture and revive forgotten food culture.
