Why travelers stop here
The Colonial History Museum is the first specialized history museum dedicated to the Japanese imperialist era, documenting and exhibiting the history of Japanese imperialist aggression, the crimes of pro-Japanese collaborators, and the glorious history of anti-Japanese resistance. This precious historical and cultural space was established thanks to donations and contributed materials from numerous citizens, including overseas compatriots. The building has a total of five floors: the first floor is a complex cultural space featuring exhibitions, a museum shop, and an event hall; the second floor offers documentary screenings and experiential displays of colonial life; the third floor houses the Institute for Korean Historical Studies; the fourth floor serves as an archive; and the fifth floor is used as a lecture hall. Additionally, the rooftop provides an observatory with views of Namsan and the Yongsan area, as well as a rest area for relaxation.
