Why travelers stop here

Horim Museum was established based on the cultural heritage and funds donated by Horim Yun Jang-seop (1922–2016) to promote the succession and development of national culture. Yun Jang-seop founded the Seongbo Cultural Foundation in July 1981, and subsequently opened Horim Museum in Daechi-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul in October 1982. Later, the museum was expanded and newly built in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul, reopening in May 1999. In June 2009, to become closer to citizens who love culture and arts, the Sinsa Branch was opened within Horim Art Center in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, an emerging cultural hub.

Horim Museum houses over 20,000 cultural heritage items including ceramics, metalwork, woodwork, paintings, and books. Among these, 62 items are designated as National Treasures (8 items) and Treasures (54 items), and 11 items are designated as Seoul Metropolitan Tangible Cultural Heritage. The collection of Horim Museum is highly regarded for its diversity and quality, serving as important foundational material for the study of Korean art history. Since its opening, Horim Museum has held exhibitions on various themes based on its high-quality collection, striving to widely promote the beauty and value of Korean art. Horim Museum aims to become a future-oriented cultural space that creates new art culture through continuous collection and exhibition.
