ChOjeon Textile & Quilt Museum opened on October 27, 1998, and is the only textile art museum in Korea, housing a variety of domestic and international textile artworks. The museum's founder, Director Kim Soon-hee of Jeil Cultural Center, established the textile art museum at the foot of Namsan, the heart of the capital Seoul, to achieve her lifelong goals of preserving the disappearing traditional Korean jogakbo technique and globalizing Korean textile art.
Upon opening, the museum successfully held its first special exhibition, the Japan International Quilt Contest Award-Winning Works Exhibition, followed by the 1st Korea Quilt Contest and its award-winning works exhibition, the Manhole Quilt Special Exhibition—a new attempt in the quilt field for a beautiful environment—and the World Traditional Textile Fabrics Exhibition, among various special exhibitions spanning quilt and textile fields. The museum also aims to provide an educational platform for artists and professionals by hosting workshops and seminars related to textile art.
