Gaosil Park

This is a waterside park created in 2000 in Yacheon Gagok-ri Village, featuring Gaosilji (a pond with a small island), a monument, and a pavilion. It is a place with five beautiful sceneries around the pond, and the five beautiful landscapes were composed into a five-element Chinese poem that has been passed down to this day. The five beauties refer to the small island in the pond, the sound of underground spring water, the bright moon over Yongsan Mountain, the clouds hanging over Bonggangsan Mountain, and the wind through the rowan trees. Gaosilji began in 1549, the 4th year of King Myeongjong of the Joseon Dynasty, when Lee Gyeong-baek, who lived in Sinpung-ri, Jibo-myeon, dug a pond in front of Gagok-ri Village. A small island was placed in the middle of the pond, influenced by the [sacred ideology] praying for eternal youth and longevity, a pavilion style popular during the Joseon Dynasty. On the island, there are old willow and pine trees over 300 years old, and in summer, fully bloomed lotus flowers add to the spectacular scenery.
