Gauido Island

Gauido Island is located approximately 5 km west of Anheung Port. The island covers an area of 2.19 ㎢ and has a coastline of about 10 km. The entire island is covered with primeval forests of camellia and oak trees, and along the beaches, scenic cliffs and rocky crags unfold. The loud calls of cormorants and seagulls flying in flocks from the nearby Jeongjokdo Island can be heard, and in spring, the sorrowful cries of cuckoos and turtle doves from the back mountain of Gauido are characteristic. Most residents of Gauido are engaged in fishing, and anchovies, sand eels, and seaweed are abundant.

Also, on a hill in the middle of the village stands a ginkgo tree, seemingly 500 to 600 years old, standing proudly like a guardian spirit. On the northeast side of the island, there is a white sandy beach surrounded by mountain foothills, which is unpolluted and exudes a sense of mystery, earning it the nickname 'Hawaii of the West Sea.' Near the beach, in the sea, there are unique rock formations such as Dokripmun Rock (also called Elephant Rock carrying a baby), Lion Rock, and Mast Rock, creating a spectacular view.
