Gailseoga

Gail Village is one of the many traditional villages remaining in Andong, well-preserved in its original form, where about 600 years of tradition and traces of old life harmonize well with its current appearance. Located here, 'Gailseoga' is a hanok book café and independent bookstore remodeled from 'Nodongseojae Gotak'. One room operates as a bookstore, and another room serves as a cultural space, hosting internal programs such as exhibitions and lectures once a month. Above all, it runs a writing program called 'Write Myself' for children in the Andong area, who lack cultural benefits compared to large cities. This program compiles the world seen through children's eyes and their own stories into a book, and also offers English reading and writing programs for adults. All these programs are not one-time events but long-term programs lasting 3 to 5 months, operated on a membership basis. 'Gailseoga' plays a role as a neighborhood bookstore and cultural space to establish writing and book culture in the Andong area. As it operates on a membership basis, advance reservation is required when visiting. Nearby, it is recommended to also visit Sugok Gotak, famous for its traditional house experience hanok stay, Siseupjae (Byeonggok Jongtaek), Namcheon Gotak, and Nodongseosa, as well as the Andong City History and Culture Museum, which utilizes a former school at the village entrance.
