Gakheuldo is a subsidiary island of Gwanmaedo, where a person with the surname Choi arrived and settled around 1700. It is called Gakheuldo because it resembles an animal's horn. It is said that pirates frequently invaded nearby Gwanmaedo, leading residents to take refuge and live on Gakheuldo. Specialty products include live fish and tott (a type of seaweed).
