Geochang Galgye-ri Three-story Stone Pagoda

The Galgye-ri Three-story Stone Pagoda is located on the site of an old temple, about 200 meters away from a village called Tapbul. Most of the temple site has been converted into farmland, making it difficult to determine the scale of the temple, and there are no records conveying the temple's history, so it is unknown which temple this pagoda belonged to. The stone pagoda has a square double base, inheriting the general style of stone pagodas from the Unified Silla period, but the overall simplified construction technique shows the style of the Goryeo period. On the base, both the upper and lower tiers have corner pillars and central support pillars. The upper capstone connecting the body and the base is made of a single stone with little slope. Each body section only has carved corner pillars, with no other carvings. The roof stone supports have four tiers each, and the eaves' drip surface is made low with a gentle slope. The corners are overly raised, appearing exaggerated, and the top part is missing, so the original appearance is unknown. Compared to the large base, the body and roof appear small, lacking overall aesthetic balance, and the roof stones are too thick, giving a rough appearance. Based on the overall formative style, it is presumed to have been made during the Goryeo period.
