Ganggangsullae Transmission Center

Haenam Usuyeong Ganggangsullae is an important cultural heritage of the Korean people, designated as Important Intangible Cultural Property No. 8 in 1966 and preserved to this day. The Ganggangsullae Transmission Center is an arts organization established in 2002 to preserve Important Intangible Cultural Property No. 8 Ganggangsullae and Intangible Cultural Property No. 20 Usuyeong Women's Farming Songs. Currently, the Usuyeong Ganggangsullae and Women's Farming Songs Promotion and Preservation Association conducts education and experiential activities with Cha Yeong-sun, holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property No. 8 Ganggangsullae, training instructor Jeong Sun-yeop, Lee In-ja, holder of Jeollanam-do Intangible Cultural Property No. 20 Usuyeong Women's Farming Songs, training instructor Choi Sun-hwa, and over 100 members. Additionally, those who have completed training under Ganggangsullae holders become instructors and proceed with transmission education activities to qualify as cultural property holders, continuously carrying out projects to pass on traditions to future generations. Every year from September to October, during the Myeongnyang Battle Festival held at Jindo Nokjin Tourist Site and Haenam Usuyeong Tourist Site hosted by Jeollanam-do, a national Ganggangsullae competition is held to raise public awareness and interest in traditional culture.
