Why travelers stop here
Daegiri was part of the old Ju-jeong-myeon area of Gangneung-gun, named after a large site, once called Hanteo, Keunteo, or Daegi. It is the highest mountain village in Gangwon Province, famous for cultivating highland vegetables and seed potatoes, with the Green Highland Mountain Village Experience Center serving as the village's core facility. At Beolmangneung, the center of Daegiri, there was once Daegi Elementary School, but due to a decline in student numbers, it closed. The villagers carefully renovated it, transforming it into a recreational facility and experience center linking agriculture and tourism for urban and rural visitors. As a village built on the western slope of Daehwaisan Mountain, where tigers once lived, it maintains cool temperatures even in summer, making it an ideal summer resort. Spring tree planting and wildflower exploration are also standout programs. Whether you ascend from Wangsan Reservoir in Wangsan-myeon, from Godan-ri south of Sapdangnyeong, or visit from Gujeol-ri, Buk-myeon, Jeongseon-gun, the surrounding scenery of vegetable fields and the Baekdudaegan mountain range unfolds continuously, creating a very unique landscape.<br>
