Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Gangseondae is a hexagonal-roofed pavilion located in the upper reaches of the Geumgang River, Yangsan-myeon, Yeongdong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do. It is one of the eight scenic spots of Yangsan (Yangsan 8 Gyeong), known for its beautiful landscapes, and is ranked as the second scenic spot (Yangsan 2 Gyeong). The site is so picturesque that a legend tells of immortals descending to play here. Perched atop a towering rock, it harmonizes with the surrounding old pine trees, exuding an elegant charm from a distance. Standing on the pavilion, one can enjoy the sound of the river crashing against the cliffs and the scenery. It is said that Gangseondae serves as a connection between the rock, which embodies strong yang energy, and the water, which embraces yin energy. Inside the pavilion, poems by Joseon-era poets Yi An-nul and Im Je are hung, adding to the refined atmosphere.
