Destination briefing
Why travelers stop here
Located on Songsaksan Mountain, which is said to be where cranes nest, Gangcheonsa Temple in Jecheon sits just below the summit of Songsaksan Mountain. It is a geomantically auspicious site with a natural scenic beauty, and visitors cannot help but marvel at the breathtaking view from the mountain temple. Climbing the steep mountain path from Songhak Elementary School, you will find Soaksa-ji on the right, and above it lies Gangcheonsa Temple. At Gangcheonsa Temple, a late Joseon Dynasty Buddhist statue, the Wooden Seated Bodhisattva and its reliquary artifacts from Gangcheonsa Temple, are enshrined. The reliquary items have never been opened since they were deposited, making it a rare case where the types and composition of the reliquary artifacts can be fully examined, drawing particular attention.
