Gogeumdo

Gogeumdo is the second largest island in Wando County. With the opening of the Gogeumdaegyo Bridge connecting Gangjin County and Gogeumdo in 2007, the distance that took 40 minutes by boat can now be crossed in 5 minutes by car, greatly improving the quality of life for residents. The construction of the Jangbogo Bridge in 2017 enabled the active hosting of festivals and events that make good use of the outstanding tourism resources. There are many excellent cultural properties, including the Wando Gogeumdo Dolmen Group (Jeollanam-do Monument), a representative Bronze Age tomb site located in Dolmen Park; Suhyangsa Temple, which houses a wooden seated Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva statue (Jeollanam-do Tangible Cultural Property); the Usuyeong Jeonjin Dojeopdo (Jeollanam-do Cultural Heritage Material); and the Wando Myeongdangdo Yi Chungmugong Historic Site (Historic Site) adjacent to Gogeumdo. Not only are seafood products famous, but the warm maritime climate, sea breezes, and abundant sunlight also produce high-quality local specialties such as yuja (citron), known for its excellent fragrance, color, and taste, offering a rich variety of food.
