Gochang Onggi

Gochang Onggi is a traditional, pollution-free pottery that has been passed down through six generations. It has long been established in Jaram-ri, Gosu-myeon, Jeonbuk, a village widely known for its pottery (onggi) for over 500 years. In the past, the entire village produced pottery, but due to industrialization, only Gochang Onggi maintains its legacy, producing traditional pollution-free pottery and preserving the old kiln site in its original form. To revitalize modern life suffering from rapid modernization and industrial pollution, they mix pine leaf ash and medicinal clay in a 1:1 ratio to create their own pollution-free glaze, making 100% living, breathing pottery. They conduct heavy metal tests several times a year at a government-certified health and environment research institute, and they personally source soil using traditional methods passed down from ancestors. Recently, their pottery has gained popularity as containers for fermented foods such as salted seafood, soy sauce, doenjang, gochujang, and kimchi, as well as for healthy beverages like bokbunja wine, plum wine, pine leaf wine, and extracts.
