Destination briefing
Why travelers stop here
Gongju, the second capital of Baekje, is an ancient city of Baekje that enjoyed its heyday for about 60 years until the capital was moved to Buyeo. The Tomb of King Muryeong is one of the few royal tombs in Korea whose owner has been identified, and numerous artifacts that had been buried intact for over a thousand years were excavated. Gomnamu, from which the place name Ungjin originated, along with the Bear Shrine, is a good place for a walk along the riverside with its old pine trees.
