Why travelers stop here
This is a stone pagoda with a three-story body placed on a single-tier base. The base consists of a lower stone and a cover stone, with two tiers of body supports on the upper surface of the cover stone. The face of the lower stone is carved with corner pillars and a single central pillar, and each story of the body has neatly carved corner pillars. The eaves stones have relatively steep water-dropping surfaces, and the tiered supports are all in four tiers. The body is built by alternately stacking body stones and eaves stones made of different materials in three stories, with height decreasing toward the top. The eaves stones, shaped like a hip-and-gable roof, have very steep upper surfaces and clearly protruding four-tiered angular supports on the lower surface. The Buddhist images carved on the four sides of the first-story body are seated in full lotus position on a pedestal, all with halos and body rays. The east side features the Medicine Buddha, the west side the Amitabha Buddha, the south side the Vairocana Buddha, and the north side the Sakyamuni Buddha, following the ritual protocol of four-directional Buddhas. This pagoda has lost its three-story body and part of its finial, which were recently repaired, but it exhibits refined beauty and excellent carving techniques. Based on the eaves stone corners and tiered supports, it is believed to have been built in the early Goryeo period.
