Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Gwiamsa is a shrine established in 1922 to honor Yang Seong-ji (1414–1482). Yang Seong-ji was a civil official of the Joseon Dynasty, with the pen name Nuljae. He held various government positions including Daesaheon (Inspector General) and Ijo Panseo (Minister of Personnel), and was a figure who constantly researched practical policies for the nation. For the welfare of the people, he advocated for the establishment of medical institutions in each region, emphasized the importance of Korea's unique customs, and demanded that the civil service examination be reformed to suit reality. He also opened Gwiamsasuk (a private educational institution) to contribute to the education of future generations. In the shrine precincts, the tombstone of Nuljae Yang Seon-saeng, which records his achievements, was erected, and next to it, a turtle-shaped stone called Gwiam still remains. Nearby tourist attractions include Cheongpungsa, Geumsan Insamgol Auto Camping Site, Geumgang Nongbau Village, Deoksansa, and the dolmens of Geumsan Cheonnae-ri and Yonghwa-ri.
