Geumhoji

Geumhoji is a large reservoir located in Yongari, Geumsan-myeon, approximately 400 meters from the Geumsan-myeon Office, covering a total area of 204,937㎡. According to legend, a yellow dragon and a blue dragon (or black dragon) were fiercely fighting in the sky. A warrior shouted for them to stop, startling the blue dragon, who looked down, and at that moment the yellow dragon stabbed the blue dragon's neck with a dagger. As the blue dragon fell to the ground, it thrashed its tail, and the sweeping motion suddenly formed a large pond. This is Geumhoji, said to resemble the blue dragon, with water that is always clear and blue. It is said that when a person dies and goes to the afterlife, the King of Hell asks, 'Have you seen Geumhoji?' If the answer is no, the person is punished as lazy. Given that the reservoir is so famous that it is known even in the afterlife, the dragon legend seems natural. Geumhoji has a circumference of about 5 km with many curves, so the entire reservoir cannot be seen at once. Although the exact time of its creation is unknown, it is estimated to have formed naturally during the Silla Dynasty.
