Noryeokdo Island

It is said that Jangsari was shaped like a snake and Jukdo was shaped like a raccoon, but the snake could not come to eat the raccoon because there was a Noryong (old dragon) on this island, so it stayed at Jukdo. Thus, the island was called Noryongdo because it had an old dragon, and later changed to Noryeokdo. Also, because the water was good and the elderly lived long on the island, it was called Noryeokdo. In 1896, when Wando-gun was established, it was incorporated into Wando, then in 1914 it was incorporated into Daedeok-myeon, Jangheung-gun, and in 1986 it became part of Hoejin-myeon, Jangheung-gun, continuing to the present day. Hoejin Bridge, connecting the mainland of Hoejin-myeon and Noryeokdo Island, was built, making it land-connected. A coastal road connects Hoejin Bridge to Noryeokhang Terminal, and most of the coast is sandy, with tidal flats developed on the west coast. In front of Noryeokdo Port, Geumdangdo and Joyakdo are visible, with Geumildo and Saengildo between them.
