Why travelers stop here
Bongdeok Market is one of the representative markets in Nam-gu, Daegu. During the Korean War, the market was flooded with goods from nearby U.S. military bases. From C-rations to blankets, sewing machines, and frying pans, all kinds of surplus and military supplies filled the market. Thus, born naturally from an unfortunate history, Bongdeok Market in Nam-gu, Daegu, enjoyed its peak boom in the 1970s and 1980s, growing into one of Daegu's four major markets. However, unlike its brilliant start, the market's current business conditions are not good due to large discount stores and online shopping malls. Since 2004, with support from the Small and Medium Business Administration, efforts have been made to help customers shop conveniently through facility modernization, including the installation of arcades and securing parking lots.
