Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Daecheongho Lake is an artificial lake spanning Daejeon Metropolitan City, Cheongju-si and Okcheon-gun, and Boeun-gun in Chungcheongbuk-do. Construction began in 1975 and was completed in 1980. It is a lifeline supplying drinking water, as well as domestic and industrial water, to the Daejeon and Cheongju areas. With a surface area of 72.8 km², a lake length of 80 km, and a storage capacity of 1.5 billion tons, it is the third-largest lake in South Korea. Hills and trees at an altitude of 200 to 300 meters above sea level spread out over the lake, making it a well-known driving course. Many migratory and resident birds flock here, and in summer, egrets can be easily seen upstream.

From the observatory, the surrounding scenery can be seen at a glance. The Water Public Relations Center, opened in 1998, features a 3D theater and an aquarium. The [Seven Steps Walking Trail], where you can enjoy exquisite poems against the backdrop of Daecheongho Lake's nature, is a beautiful walking path created along the lakeshore. Here, along with street trees, there are poetry monuments, sculptures containing poems, and sculptural works engraved with poems made of unique materials.
