Dogye Seowon

Located in Buk-an-myeon, Yeongcheon, Dogye Seowon is a shrine enshrining the spirit tablet of Nogye Park In-ro (1561–1642), a representative literary figure of the mid-Joseon period. In 1707, scholars who admired his learning and virtue established Dogye Seowon and held ancestral rites, but it was demolished in 1868 under the Heungseon Daewongun's order to abolish seowon (Confucian academies). It was rebuilt at its current location in 1970.

Dogye Seowon once housed the woodblocks of 'Nogyejip' (a Gyeongsangbuk-do tangible cultural property), but they are now entrusted to the Korean Studies Advancement Center. Across the pond in front of the seowon lies the tomb of Master Nogye, and next to it is the Nogye Literature Museum. The Nogye Literature Museum consists of an exhibition hall that provides a comprehensive view of the life of Nogye Park In-ro, revered as one of the three great poets of the Joseon Dynasty alongside Songgang Jeong Cheol and Gosan Yun Seon-do, and a video room that can accommodate about 60 people, offering a place to learn about the literary spirit and philosophy of Master Nogye.
