Why travelers stop here
Doripo is a port at the southern tip of the Chil-san Sea, which stretches across Hampyeong and Yeonggwang, located at the end of Haeje Peninsula. It is a place where both sunsets and sunrises can be viewed, and it was selected by the Korea Tourism Organization as one of the '100 Beautiful Fishing Villages of Korea'. The Chil-san Bridge connecting Yeomgwang-myeon in Yeonggwang-gun and Doripo in Haeje-myeon, Muan-gun, is popular as a driving course.
The Hamhae-man Bay, surrounded by Haeje Peninsula and the inland areas of Muan, Hampyeong, and Yeonggwang-gun, is the largest spawning ground for fish in the southwestern coast. Various fish species such as mullet, sea bream, croaker, and ray lay eggs here, hatch their young, and the juvenile fish go out to the open sea, returning as adults to spawn. Additionally, the Hamhae-man Bay has seaweed and oyster farms, and plump, tender Muan mud octopus are caught in abundance. At the end of the breakwater in Muan-gun, there is a lighthouse shaped like an octopus, honoring the Muan tidal flat octopus, praying for a bountiful sea, and enhancing the scenery of the fishing port.
