Why travelers stop here
Dorimsa is located at the entrance of Dorim Village, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City. It is a shrine enshrining Nosa Gi Jeong-jin (1798–1879), Nanwa O Gye-su (1843–1915), and Huseok O Jun-seon (1851–1931). In 1866 (the 3rd year of King Gojong's reign), when the Byeonginyangyo (French campaign against Korea) occurred, Gi Jeong-jin submitted the Byeonginso (a memorial) proposing measures to defend against foreign invaders, laying the foundation for the ideology of 'wijeongcheoksa' (defending orthodoxy and rejecting heterodoxy). O Gye-su, a disciple of Gi Jeong-jin, participated in the Eulmi Righteous Army that arose after the Eulmi Incident (1895). After the Japan–Korea Annexation in 1910, he retreated to Yeongsajae, located in the mountain behind Gama Village, where he lived in seclusion and studied. O Jun-seon, also a disciple of Gi Jeong-jin, entered Yongjinsan Mountain after the annexation, established Yongjinjeongsa, and studied Neo-Confucianism while nurturing younger scholars.
In 1934, the Naju O clan and the later disciples of O Gye-su and O Jun-seon established Dorimsa to honor O Gye-su, O Jun-seon, and Gi Jeong-jin. Dorim Village is the birthplace of O Gye-su and O Jun-seon, and it is a clan village of the Naju O clan.
