Riso World Sewing Machine Museum

The World Sewing Machine Museum & Workshop is a collection of sewing machines and related accessories gathered from around the world over several decades by directors Lee Il-seung and Jo Gyeong-ryeon. As the first of its kind in Korea, it initially showcases 250 out of over 400 antique sewing machines collected worldwide, along with more than 200 related accessories such as sewing baskets. The exhibited items were produced from the early 1800s, when the sewing machine was invented, to the modern era, in various countries including Europe, the United States, and Japan, and are diverse in function and purpose. There are many old sewing machines, including a product named 'Tabitha' made in England in the late 1800s, and a product called 'Singer No. 2' made in New York between 1852 and 1878, which bears the serial number 362494. There are also children's sewing machines made between 1920 and 1940, as well as various sewing machines for general clothing, carpets, horse saddles, shoes, leather goods, and children. In addition, more than 200 related accessories such as sewing baskets, needles, irons, bobbins, scissors, thimbles, oil cans, clothing patterns, promotional posters, sales contracts, and product manuals are also on display. Among Korean products, a 'Dress Sewing Machine' awarded by the Minister of Agriculture in 1962 to a village draws attention. Riso World Sewing Machine Museum is located in the city center adjacent to Jinju Fortress, Chokseokru, Jinju Museum, Changnyeolsa, Gyeongnam Culture and Arts Center, and Jinju Yudeung Experience Center, making it a great place to visit together.
