Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Located at the southernmost tip of Korean territory, Marado Lighthouse stands on the edge of a green lawn facing the sea. It serves as a landmark for ships navigating the East China Sea and the southern waters of Jeju Island, often referred to as Korea's Cape of Good Hope. First built in March 1915 during the Japanese colonial period, the lighthouse was reconstructed in March 1987. It is a white octagonal concrete structure with a height of 16m. Its light flashes once every 10 seconds and is visible from approximately 48km away. Adjacent to Marado Cathedral, it is a popular photo spot where visitors can capture both landmarks together. In front of the lighthouse, models of famous lighthouses from around the world and a marble world map are displayed, offering an educational experience for children. Marado, where the lighthouse is located, is a natural monument in its entirety, boasting beautiful natural scenery. It features attractions such as the Southernmost Tip Monument, Aegieopgaehalmangdang, General Rock, coastal erosion caves, and Sanbangsan Mountain. To visit Marado, you must take a ferry departing from Unjin Port Passenger Terminal or Sanisudong Port's [Marado-bound passenger ship].
