Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Maisan Provincial Park features Maisan Mountain, a medicinal herb town and exhibition hall, red ginseng spa, and accommodation facilities such as Hongsambill. It is also famous for various attractions including natural monuments like the wild pear tree and evergreen spindle tree, as well as hiking trails suitable for play and relaxation. Maisan Mountain consists of two peaks called Ammaibong (687.4m) and Sumaibong (681.1m), along with about ten smaller peaks, spanning the boundary between Danyang-ri, Jinan-eup and Dongchon-ri, Maryeong-myeon. Visible from any direction in Jinan town, Maisan has four names depending on the season. In spring, the two peaks emerging through fog resemble a double-masted sailboat, so it is called Dotsaebong; in summer, when trees are lush, they look like dragon horns, hence Yonggakbong; in autumn, the autumn leaves resemble horse ears, giving it the name Maibong; in winter, without snow, it appears like an ink-dipped brush tip, called Munpilbong. On Maisan, there is Eunsusa Temple, where it is said that King Taejo of the Joseon Dynasty offered a 100-day prayer while returning from Seongsusan Mountain in Imsil-gun, and Tapsa Temple, which boasts about 80 stone pagodas that do not collapse even in strong winds and rain. Additionally, the 3km entrance road is lined with cherry trees forming a tunnel, bustling every year with tourists visiting to see the cherry blossoms.
