Why travelers stop here
Maisan consists of two peaks called Ammaibong (687.4m) and Sumaibong (681.1m), along with about ten smaller peaks, and is located on the boundary between Danyang-ri, Jinan-eup and Dongchon-ri, Maryeong-myeon. The western peak of the rocky mountain is the mother peak (Mobong) and the eastern peak is the father peak (Bubong).
During the Silla period, it was called Seodasan (西多山), during the Goryeo period it was called Yongchulsan (湧出山), and in the early Joseon period it was called Sokgeumsan (束金山). Currently, it is called Maisan (馬耳山), meaning it resembles a horse's ear.
