Why travelers stop here
Considered the essence of Sinseong Valley, Baekseoktan means "a stream where white stones glisten," featuring a spectacular succession of dazzling rocks. Potholes are deep, jar-shaped holes formed in the bedrock over a long period of weathering and erosion by the valley's flow. Baekseoktan has clear water flowing over rocks that are so white they take on a bluish tint. At the lower part of Baekseoktan, conglomerate containing pebbles of 2-20 cm is found, and as you go upward, the particle size gradually decreases. In addition, numerous sedimentary structures such as mudstone fragments, cross-bedding, and trace fossils are discovered, making it a popular site for nature study.
