Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Inhyeon Market [仁峴市場] is a traditional market formed in Inhyeon-dong 2-ga, Jung-gu, Seoul. It naturally emerged from the late 1950s to the early 1960s and has a history of over 50 years. It is also known as the place where Prince Inseong [仁城君], the seventh son of King Seonjo [宣祖] of the Joseon Dynasty, once lived. Located in the back alleys of Chungmuro, famous for its movie street and printing alley, Inhyeon Market is a traditional market where modernity and the past coexist, accessible by navigating around the high-rise buildings of the modern city center. Chungmuro Printing Alley encompasses the printing alleys spanning three areas: Inhyeon-dong, Euljiro, and Pil-dong. Nestled within these printing alleys is the small alley market of Inhyeon Market. With 110 shops densely packed along a 2-meter-wide, 202-meter-long alley, Inhyeon Market is adjacent to tourist attractions such as Myeongdong and Namsangol Hanok Village, attracting a daily floating population of 20,000 people. However, it has experienced a period of stagnation due to outdated facilities and the aging of its merchants. In the late 1960s, the construction of the Seun Sangga complex reduced the market to its current size. It is known for its many hidden restaurants and affordable prices, making it a familiar place for nearby printing workers and small merchants. Moreover, it is famous as a go-to spot for office workers after work to relieve daily fatigue, earning it the nickname 'Paradise of Taste.' Recently, young entrepreneurs and artists have opened youth stores in Inhyeon Market, offering unique experiences.
