Euljiro Nogari Alley

서울특별시 중구 을지로 129 을지로3가역 3호선

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

In the alley leading to Exit 4 of Euljiro 3-ga Station (Seoul Subway Line 3), the area is bustling every night with people drinking beer and eating nogari (dried pollack) at makeshift tables. The alley is filled with hundreds of customers seated at plastic tables under dazzling lights. Euljiro Nogari Alley began in November 1980 with the first nogari beer bar, Eulji OB Bear. Euljiro is home to the largest printing district in the country, where nearly all books and printed materials distributed in Korea were once produced. To meet deadlines, many printing workers worked overnight shifts, and after their shifts, they would unwind by drinking cold draft beer with nogari. Over time, more beer bars opened, eventually forming the Nogari Draft Beer Alley. When the alley first formed, nogari was grilled over briquette fires and served with gochujang (red chili paste). Today, many shops in Euljiro Nogari Alley offer not only nogari but also a variety of snacks like chicken, stews, and fried foods, similar to beer bars. The main menu items remain nogari and draft beer.
