Uidong Valley

Uidong Valley is a representative valley of Gangbuk, located between Dobongsan and Bukhansan. The nine bends of the valley flowing from Bukhansan through Uidong are called [Uigugok]. This name was given by Hong Yang-ho, who lived here from 1762, and he loved this place so much that he named nine spots while exploring Uidong Valley and wrote [Uidonggugokgi]. Uidonggugokgi remains as Seoul's only gugok literature. Convenient facilities such as stairs and walking paths are well-equipped around the valley, making it convenient, and enjoying walks in the greenery or playing in the water in the valley helps forget the sweltering summer heat. Additionally, restaurants along the clear and cool stream are available, and especially in summer, chicken porridge is a delicacy. Accommodation is also possible, and in March and April, it is preferred as a venue for university student MTs. Climbing about 20 minutes along Uidong Valley, you can find temples such as Wonbulgyo Monastery, Seongbulsa, Yongdeoksa, Seonunsa, and Gwangmyeongsa, and the lively atmosphere at the entrance soon becomes calm, offering a different charm. It is close to downtown Seoul and easily accessible by public transportation, making it a great place for Seoul citizens to visit without burden for rest and healing.
