Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Gulpocheon Ecological Stream is a representative waterside space in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, where visitors can relax alongside the waterway. It was created in 2008 through the Gulpocheon Natural-Type Stream Project, which restored a 6km section from Bupyeong-gu Office to the boundary of Bucheon as an ecological stream. During the reign of King Jungjong of the Joseon Dynasty, many ships carrying grain and other goods from the three southern provinces to the sea capsized at Sonmokgot in Ganghwa. To avoid this dangerous route and transport goods more safely, people dug this stream (a man-made canal), hence its name, which reflects the traces of canal construction. Today, Gulpocheon Ecological Stream has established itself as a refreshing resting place in the city. Along the waterside walking path, fountains and waterside facilities have been installed, and various aquatic plants such as water miscanthus, cattails, fountain grass, and yellow iris have been planted to purify the water, transforming it into a beautiful waterside space that serves as a haven for many. Address: 141 Gulpo-ro, Bupyeong-gu, Incheon (Samsan-dong)
