Gyeyangsan

Gyeyangsan, at an elevation of 395 meters, is the highest mountain in Incheon Metropolitan City excluding Ganghwado Island. It is said that the name Gyeyangsan originated from the Cercidiphyllum japonicum and Buxus koreana trees that grow naturally on the mountain. Suitable for a half-day hike in the metropolitan area and easily accessible for beginner hikers, it attracts many climbers. The trailhead is close to Gyeyang Station on Incheon Subway Line 1, making it convenient to reach by public transportation. There are a total of 9 hiking courses, ranging from as short as 50 minutes to just over 2 hours. Most hikers start from Yeonmu-jeong Pavilion, pass through Palgak-jeong Pavilion to reach the summit, and then descend along the southern ridge. However, the main ridge trail lacks shade, making it more suitable for spring and autumn hikes rather than summer. Using the Gyeyangsan Barrier-Free Trail connecting Imhak Park and Gyeyangsanseong Fortress, disabled individuals and the elderly can easily climb the mountain. Gyeyangsan is also a mountain where one can enjoy both hiking and historical exploration. It features various interesting attractions such as Gyeyangsanseong Fortress, built during the Three Kingdoms period and used until the Joseon Dynasty, the site of Jao-dang and Chojeong where Goryeo Dynasty scholar Yi Gyu-bo stayed, Bongwolsa Temple site, and a beacon fire station. From the summit, the eastern view offers a panoramic view of Seoul including Gimpo International Airport, while the western view provides a glimpse of surrounding islands such as Yeongjongdo and Ganghwado.
