Why travelers stop here
Donggeomdo is a small island with an area of 1.61㎢ located south of Ganghwado. It is connected to Seondu-ri, Gilsang-myeon, Ganghwa-gun by a land bridge, making it easily accessible by car from Ganghwado. The name 'Donggeomdo' originates from the meaning of an eastern checkpoint where ships from the three southern provinces heading to Hanyang or merchants traveling between China and Korea used to pass. The island has a mountain rising in the center, and the northeastern and western coasts form relatively gentle slopes. Wide tidal flats spread around the island, creating dramatic scenery during low tide, and reed fields flourish along the port. With a coastline of 6.95km, Donggeomdo is quite famous for camping, car camping, and sea fishing. Several pensions and campsites are located along the southwestern coast, and a parking lot for car camping is available at Donggeom Pier on the eastern edge. Compared to nearby Ganghwado and Seokmodo, there are fewer people, allowing you to listen to the sound of waves and enjoy peaceful relaxation. The Donggeom Leisure Sea Fishing Spot on the southeastern side of the island catches various fish species such as rockfish, red seabream, croaker, and longtooth grouper, making it ideal for family sea fishing. The DRFA365 Art Theater on the northeastern side of the island is a cinema that screens art films year-round and is a representative tourist attraction of the island. It selects masterpieces that will remain in film history and shows 1 to 3 films daily.
