Why travelers stop here
Located south of Ganghwa County Office, Ganghwa Cultural Center is the first cultural center in Korea, opened in 1947. It was established to research and develop the local culture of Ganghwado Island. The center serves as a venue for exhibitions by writers associated with Ganghwa and as a place for exchange among Ganghwa artists. The Ganghwa Cultural School, operated by the cultural center, plans and runs various educational activities and events, such as calligraphy, gayageum, and classical guitar classes on different days of the week, to enhance the cultural dissemination and benefits for local residents. In particular, it is contributing to the succession of Korea's history and traditions and the development of local cultural content by promoting the Gaecheon Daeje Ritual Manual Maintenance Project, which restores rituals close to their original forms.
