Police Spirit Monument

In 2006, a memorial monument was erected in Dangsan-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu to commemorate the spirits of local police officers who were killed in action or died in the line of duty during the chaotic period after liberation, the Korean War, and the post-war era. The Yeongdeungpo Police Station established this monument on June 23, 2006, to widely pass on to future generations the noble patriotism and spirit of sacrifice of those who died for the country or in the line of duty—such as Yongtae Cho and Donguk Kim (before the war), Jaeun Lee and Yongju Park (during the war), and Ilyong Yang and Yeongsik Kim (post-war)—and further to comfort their bereaved families. Before and after the Korean War, the Yeongdeungpo police stood against the invasion of North Korean forces and perished in anti-guerrilla operations for the safety and peace of the people. Even after the war, sacrifices occurred as they worked tirelessly year-round to ensure public security, prioritizing it over their own lives. The Yeongdeungpo Police Station holds a memorial event for them every year.
