Yonghaksa Temple

경기도 이천시 모가면 진상미로1067번길 271

Destination briefing

Why travelers stop here

Located on Maguksan Mountain in Icheon, Yonghaksa Temple was originally an unnamed temple called Seondeoksa-ri, left neglected almost as a ruined temple site. About 30 years ago, through an encounter with Monk Hyebong, who was on a pilgrimage, it was reborn as Yonghaksa Temple. It is said that after Monk Hyebong had a dream of a dragon ascending to heaven while in devoted prayer, the temple came to be called Yonghaksa (Dragon Learning Temple). The monk settled at Yonghaksa and began restoration work, cultivating the Sansingak (Mountain Spirit Hall), Daeungjeon (Main Hall), Beomjonggak (Bell Pavilion), Geungnakjeon (Paradise Hall), and the social welfare corporation Maya-won, leading to the present day.
