Bongnimsa Temple (Hwaseong)

Standing facing the West Sea, Bongnimsa Temple is said to have been founded during the reign of Queen Seondeok of Silla (647–653) to repel the frequent invasions of Goguryeo and Baekje through the power of the Buddha. The temple's name originates from a bird raised in the palace that flew into the forest near the temple at the time of its founding, and the mountain was also named Bibongsan.

Inside Geungnakjeon Hall, a wooden Amitabha Buddha statue designated as Treasure No. 980 is enshrined. According to the creation and gilding record found inside the statue when it was regilded in 1978, the statue was created before 1312. Additionally, eight types of texts from the late Goryeo to early Joseon periods were discovered in the statue's repository, designated as Treasure No. 1095.
