Mangisa (Pyeongtaek)

Mangisa is a branch temple of Yongjusa, the head temple of the second diocese of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. It was founded in 942 (the 25th year of King Taejo's reign) by Namsa Temple, and was renovated under royal command during the reign of King Sejo of Joseon. Inside the main hall (Daeungjeon), which has a hipped-and-gabled roof with four front bays and two side bays, are enshrined a seated iron Buddha statue designated as Treasure No. 567, as well as Buddhist paintings. This temple has a well called Eojeong (royal well). It is said that King Sejo, passing by, drank water from the well and, finding the taste unique, named the spring 'Gamrocheon' (Sweet Dew Spring).
