Why travelers stop here
Gasado Lighthouse is located at the southernmost tip of Gasado Island and was first lit in 1915. Initially an unmanned lighthouse, it was converted to a manned lighthouse in 1984 due to the need for increased light power to ensure the safety of vessels traveling between Busan or Jeju and Incheon or Mokpo, as many islands are scattered around the lighthouse and fog occurs for over 1,500 hours annually.
The structure of the Gasado Lighthouse in Jodo-myeon is an octagonal concrete tower with a straight ladder installed up to the lantern room, and a ladder is also installed on the buoy lantern. The tower height is 11m, and it is located on high ground with an elevation of 70m above mean sea level.
