Why travelers stop here
Gwangju City Patriotism and Veterans Park is a meaningful place that honors the noble spirit of those who sacrificed for the country. Originally Gyeongan Neighborhood Park, its name was changed to reflect the values of patriotism and veterans' affairs, and it serves not only as a simple resting space but also as a venue for historical education. It is a place where citizens can reflect on the spirit of loving the country and where descendants can remember and pass on history.
The park features veterans' facilities honoring those who sacrificed for the nation, including the March 1st Movement Memorial Tower and the Monument of Meritorious Patriots. The Patriotism and Veterans Park Memorial Tower was originally built in 1959 to commemorate the noble patriotic spirit of the martyrs and patriotic veterans from 16 townships of Gwangju County at the time, and was newly renovated in 2009. A memorial ceremony is held here every Memorial Day.
