Why travelers stop here
Yodang Village was formed about 400 years ago when the Jeonju Ryu clan settled here. It is a village known for its beautiful ginkgo tree, a protected tree that is about 400 years old. For this reason, it is more commonly referred to as the village with the ginkgo tree rather than by its name Yodang-ri. The ginkgo tree in the village was designated as a protected tree in 1982, with an age of 400 years and a height of about 25 meters. It is said that until the end of the Joseon Dynasty, there was a pond in the center of the village, and because there were many reeds around this pond, the name 'Yodang' was derived from the Chinese characters for reed (yo) and pond (dang). Although it is a small village, Yodang Village is also famous for its high educational zeal, producing many doctors from its households. A single 400-year-old ginkgo tree stands tall in the center of the village, serving as a pavilion. To the south of the village lies the beautifully rising Deokji Mountain, which borders Cheongbuk-myeon, Pyeongtaek-si, and nearby is the Yodang-ri Sacred Site, making it a good place to explore together.
